Kamloops, British Columbia, July 21, 2022 – The Kamloops 2022 Canada 55+ Games will feature the nation’s best competitors from across the country as they participate in 26 official events in Kamloops August 23-26, 2022. Organizers are thrilled to be hosting in Kamloops for the first time since they began in 1996. In order to pull off the event, organizers are calling on the community for support.
“We will need more than 600 volunteers to make it all happen. We’re asking them to commit to a minimum of 4 hours, but shifts will average 4-6 hours in length.” Elsa Poppleton the Director of Volunteers and an employee of the Kamloops Sports Council. Adding, “our volunteer registration drive is formally underway, and we are looking to the incredible Kamloops community for their support”.
“This is all about creating a truly memorable Games experience for the 55+ athletes” said Poppleton. Adding, “Our most critical volunteer needs are for individuals who can support the medical and accreditation teams. For medical, we’re looking for individuals with their standard first aid, or above, and for accreditation, we need people who can help welcome and sign-in participants. There are many other opportunities though as well, such as ceremonies and sport specific positions.”
The 2022 Canada 55+ Games are a large multi-sport event with over 2836 participants. The Games are open to adults aged 55 years and over focusing on the social, physical and psychological wellbeing of the participants through the multi-day event. The opportunity for enrichment, fulfilment and improved quality of life is provided by participation in a broad variety of athletic, recreational, and social events. Although the nature of the Games is to declare a winner, or winners, the aspect of winning is secondary to the social side related to reuniting with friends from Games past.
Over the four days of the Games, participants are treated to 3 days of competition, an Opening Ceremony, Special Events, and a Closing Ceremony with a banquet and dance.
